This chocolate spread is very easy to make and so much better than Nutella. The only difference is the grainy texture of the hazelnuts as the shop bought ones are made from industrial machines to make it smooth. This will not make a slight difference in taste as it's absolutely delicious and you know exactly what goes into it :)
1 bag of Hazelnuts
Vegetable oil as needed.
1/2 cup unsweetened Cocoa powder ( I used Green and Blacks Organic Cocoa)
1 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
Plain chocolate (optional)
Put Hazelnuts in a pan and dry roast them for 10 minutes until they get slightly darker in colour . Be careful not to burn them.
Transfer roasted Hazelnuts into a clean bowl and let them cool for a few minutes.
Either remove the skins by putting the hazelnuts in a clean tea towel and fold and rub until the skin comes away or rub the hazelnuts in your palms .
Don't worry if the skin can't be removed from any of the hazelnuts as this will not alter the taste.
Put the hazelnuts into the blender and blend until smooth and paste like.
Add in the cocoa powder, salt and sugar and 2 tbsp of oil.
Blend until it comes together like a paste, stopping every minute to push the mixture down from the side. Add a tablespoon of oil between bursts of blending to get the desired texture.
Pour the chocolate mixture into a clean air tight jar.
This is what my end result looked like it was delicious :) I wanted my spread to set and not be too runny so I decided to melt some milk chocolate and add it to the jar to help it set in the fridge.
This is optional of course you can leave it as it is.
This is my final result and has set very nicely :)
Enjoy on a hot piece of toast or anything you like. Or if you're like me just get a spoonful and indulge :)
I hope you try this recipe out :)
